Warehouse in Békoko

Warehouse in Békoko

Functioning medical equipment cannot be taken for granted in Cameroon. A new warehouse will ensure the Medical Center’s uninterrupted supply of medical equipment, furniture and consumables in the future.

Roughly every two months, MNC – the Medical Network Cameroon – sends a container with medical furniture, equipment and consumables to Cameroon. Because what is considered discarded in Europe is still so welcome in Cameroon. The material is then distributed throughout Cameroon to institutions with a humanitarian background. Until now, the storage of the stocks always had to be handed over to other institutions. This is to change with the soon-to-be-completed warehouse in Békoko. The first two steps – planning and completion of the shell – have already been completed. Now the interior work is due to be completed in 2022. “This is a collaboration between various MNC partners in Europe and Cameroon. The project is led by Bon Secours, in close cooperation with Hope and Life Cameroun , ” says the project concept. The budget for this is around 80,000 to 110,000 euros.

There is still a lot to be done before the building is finished, but the basic framework is in place.

Storage, repair, training

The warehouse is intended to provide “a safe and secure place for storing medical materials,” the concept continues. But not only that: Not only will there be enough storage space, but also additional rooms for various purposes. On the one hand, a workshop equipped with the necessary tools is planned so that the delivered material can be repaired if necessary. This will be done by trained European technicians, who will also train local technicians to provide further support. Another part of the warehouse will be a conference room in which meetings and training programs for MNC members can be held. They can also stay in the studios, which are also planned in the warehouse. Both the conference room and the studios could also be rented out to outsiders to generate funds for the maintenance of the building.

Various advantages

“It is a huge advantage for us to have material that meets our needs without long waiting times,” says KamerunGo! President Ursina Sprenger, explaining the importance of the warehouse for the medical center in Békoko. “And of course, we can have broken material repaired directly. In turn, local staff are trained and involved directly.” Having suitable rooms for further training and being able to accommodate various partners directly and easily are further advantages of the warehouse. “We are very pleased with the development and look forward to being able to open the warehouse by the end of 2022.”
