A few months ago, Armand Djimafo discovered the pregnancy of a 12-year-old girl at the health center in Cameroon. He wasn't the only one surprised by the diagnosis - the child had no idea what was going on inside her body. "When we told her the diagnosis, she was shocked and scared," Dr. Armand Djimafo reports. "I sat in front of her and wondered, 'How do you tell a 12-year-old girl that her body is going to change? That the likelihood of a C-section is high because her body is not ready for birth? And that her risk of complications during birth will be much higher?"
With the following measures, we would like to be able to better meet the needs of women and expectant mothers:
- Construction of a women's clinic with operating room, so that we can better accompany women and girls during and after pregnancy.
- Starter kit for new mothers - it contains, along with a lot of information, the most important items for the first days. By the way, you can also finance such a starter kit! 🙂
- Education and prevention - so that it doesn't get that far in the first place!

Mit unserem Verein KamerunGO! betreiben wir in Bekoko das erste medizinische Gesundheitszentrum und führen dies mit lokalen Mitarbeitern. Damit schaffen wir eine Anlaufstelle für Beratungen, Behandlungen und Präventionsarbeiten. Unser Ziel ist es, die Gesundheitssituation in Kamerun nachhaltig zu verbessern.

Why Cameroon?
Health care in Cameroon is in a very bad state!
Die medizinische Versorgung der 24 Millionen Menschen Kameruns ist in einem desolaten Zustand:
- Krankenhäuser zerfallen, sind ungenügend eingerichtet und erfüllen nicht einmal minimale Hygienevorschriften.
- Viele medizinische Geräte sind alt, kaputt und können vor Ort nicht gewartet werden.
- Oftmals sind in Kliniken nur wenige oder gar keine Ärztinnen und Ärzte angestellt. Deswegen werden die Behandlungen oftmals vom Pflegepersonal durchgeführt – darunter auch Operationen, die eigentlich dringend von fachkundigen Chirurginnen und Chirurgen durchgeführt werden müssten.
Aufgrund eines weitgehend fehlenden Gesundheitssystems hat der Großteil der Bevölkerung keinen oder nur sehr bedingt Zugang zu medizinischer Versorgung und genau da möchten wir mit unserem Projekt als erstes ansetzen.
